Toyota Malawi extended to Mzuzu and officially marked its presence in the city by opening a magnificent building that would house its branch in the region, promising outstanding service for Toyota brand owners in the region. The company's Managing Director Rosemary Mkandawire said on current value, construction of the building and equipping it with the necessary machines cost over K450 million which shareholders of parent company Toyota Tsusho provided without frowns.

"The opening of this building means we have come closer to the customer. Prior to this opening, customers made an 800-plus kilometre round trip to service their vehicles in Lilongwe. "Most of all, the opening of this branch means you will buy genuine spare parts and service your vehicles here. This means three things: extending your vehicle life, paying less in the long run, and being mindful of safety of yourself, family and passengers," said Mkandawire.
She said the new infrastructure and the equipment it houses did not mean higher prices for service, and urged customers to patronise the service as the car distributor was a "partner for life." Both Japanese Ambassador to Malawi Motoyoshi Noro and Minister of Transport and Public Infrastructure Khumbo Kachali, who officially opened the branch on behalf of president Bingu wa Mutharika, hailed the opening as a symbol of continued cooperation between Chenjezi. Malawi and Japan. "The inauguration of the Mzuzu office today marks a milestone not only in the history of Toyota Malawi but also in the history of the Japan-Malawi relations. Though it may sound a cliche, allow me to say that 'this is history in the making'. "I must add that this new office will undoubtedly enhance the socio-economic development of Mzuzu City and ultimately that of the country. I am, therefore, truly happy to witness the inauguration of this Toyota Malawi Mzuzu office because of its historical and socio-economical significance,'' said Noro.
The building houses advanced equipment including a state-of-the-art vehicle intelligence tester, a modern wheel alignment and balancing machine and equipment Kachali said vehicle owners would find very useful and necessary for prolonged life of vehicles. "This office will certainly enhance transport infrastructure development in Mzuzu and the entire northern region. Customers will no longer have to trek all the way to Lilongwe or Blantyre. "Furthermore, employment opportunities have been created through this new office. I am pleased to note that employment prospects automatically translate to progress in poverty reduction," Noro said. Kachali said the modern facility symbolised Toyota Malawi's commitment to customer excellence and partnership. "It is very pleasing that Toyota Malawi customers in the northern region will be able to enjoy and experience excellent backup service through this modem facility; in addition to that, the facility has also hastened the beauty of Mzuzu city," said Kachali.
"I would like to assure Toyota Malawi of government's continued support and urge all Toyota owners in Mzuzu and the northern region to buy genuine parts and service theirvehicles at this modem facility." Kachali, however, asked the company to start offering Malawians services the Toyota Company offers across the border saying he wanted to start seeing double-storey Toyota showrooms he sees in South Africa in places like Mzuzu.
Toyota Tsusho Automotive Department for Africa Division General Manager Sachio Yotsukura, who had travelled from Japan just to grace the opening, said the opening of the Mzuzu branch was reciprocation to what Toyota customers in Malawi have been doing to the company. Toyota Malawi is one of seven distributors in Africa that are entirely owned by parent company Toyota Tsusho. Overall, there are 23 Toyota distributors in Africa. Noro said Toyota Malawi presented its uniqueness through its controlling of a 54 percent car market share in the country.
