Blantyre-based Welcome Phiri proved that his MuItiChoice Malawi Wednesday's Ballpool victory was not a fluke when he scored 38 points to win the Toyota Malawi individual stableford golf tournament played at Nchalo in ChikhWawa. Playing with a 15 handicap, Phiri had a grand tournament from the start as he scored pars on the front five before hitting two eagles on the back. "I was not playing under pressure, that is why I managed to win. I would, however, want to thank my golfing partners for giving me a good game," said Phiri, 36, who started playing the gentleman's game four years ago.

"I have won a number of tournaments but what makes me more excited today is that this is my first time to win at Nchalo." said Phiri, who carted home a state-of-the-art television screen.

John Mphande came second when he was counted in after he tied against John Gift Mwakhwawa at 35 points. In the ladies category, Terry Amara was the overall winner With 34 points and went away with a washing machine. Amara was seconded by Zelda Humphreys at 31 points. Longest drive of the day went to Sam Mwale and Beatrice Mangwana. Nchalo Golf Committee secretary Chrispin Chikwawa was the worst golfer of the day.

Toyota Malawi senior brands manager Phoebe Msosa appealed to individuals, companies and organisations to buy genuine Toyota vehicles and spare parts from her company. She said the company has vehicles tailor-made for every task, adding that the company provides back-up service and warranty. Msosa further said Toyota Malawi has a trade-in facility, through which customers could exchange an old Toyota with a new one. Toyota Malawi donated about K300 000 to Nchalo Golf Club for the maintenance of the greens.
