Self sponsored Super League side Dwangwa United got a major boost from Toyota Malawi Limited on Saturday, when the vehicle dealers donated football boots worth about K1 million. The donation was made at Kasasa Golf Club, where Toyota Malawi sponsored a day-long golf tournament.
Toyota Malawi 's senior brands manager Phoebe Chitimba said Toyota was proud to be associated with Dwangwa United FC having enjoyed a good relationship with people from Dwangwa over the years. Dwangwa United chairman Victor Mangochi, who received the donation on behalf of the club, thanked Toyota Malawi. He said the donation would go a long way in alleviating the problems the club was facing. "I thank Toyota Malawi, especially their managing director Rosemary Mkandawire, for the donation.
It was about three months ago, when I called her, asking for the assistance and she said we would get the boots," Mangochi said. The chairman said the club would now have to look into other issues like players' welfare, transport, food and accommodation. The club, which has just won promotion back into the Super League, relics on a bus it acquired last year to raise funds.
