.:. Toyota equips Namiwawa Primary School

Toyota Malawi Limited (Tmal) on 9th March handed over a feeding shelter to Mary's Meals Malawi for the benefit of Namiwawa Primary School in Blantyre.

The motor company rehabilitated the feeding shelter to the tune of K400,000 so that the pupils should have a decent feeding place, according to Toyota Malawi Customer Relations Manager Ronald Banda, "This is part of our social responsibility which is in line with the international rules of our company by giving back some of our profits to the society. We have partnered with Mary's Meals and we are ready to assist them in any possible way," said Banda.

Mary's Meals Malawi Country Director Peter Nkata said they could not manage to put up proper shelters in all primary schools which are benefiting from the project. "Plans are there to get more companies to help us in sponsoring the feeding shelters for the pupils. We are appealing to private sector companies to come forward and help us," he said. According to Nkata, construction of the feeding shelters cost about K1.5 million, and when companies sponsor the shelters, it means they will also be helping in maintenance.

Namiwawa Primary School head teacher Elias Idi said the introduction of the feeding programme had increased enrollment. "Absenteeism has decreased and a lot of pupils are now interested in their studies, which is a positive note for the school and the nation as a whole," he said. Mary's Meals assists several schools in the country through construction of shelters and donations of bags of likuni phala mealie to the schools.
